Breaking News: Orlando Wellington resigns back
posted on Tue, 10 Jul at 12:23
Ghana's Under-20 coach Orlando Wellington has resigned as the coach of the side after failing to deliver good results for the Black Satellites.
The ex-Heart of Lions trainer slapped in his resignation letter on Tuesday after the Ghana Football Association hinted that there would be a massive technical clear-out.
Wellington has come under intense criticisms in the local media after strings of poor performances in friendly matches ahead of the qualifying campaign to the 2013 African Youth Championship.
Their 2-2 home draw against Namibia last Sunday sparked fresh calls for his sacking before Satellites management chief, George Afriyie admitted that they were considering technical changes for the former world champions.
Wellington has not endeared himself to local fans after his team flopped badly at an eight-national tournament held in South Africa.
For a man who was an assistant to Sellas Tetteh when Ghana conquered Africa and the world in 2009, many have questioned his technical acumen to guide the team to the promise land after he failed woefully to defend the African crown in 2011.
