Ramires: Torres scoring again is the best thing about Chelsea back
posted on Sat, 05 May at 10:58
Chelsea midfielder Ramires claims that Fernando Torres' return to goalscoring form is one of the best things about the club currently.
The Spaniard netted a hat trick on Sunday in a 6-1 thumping of QPR at Stamford Bridge and his Brazilian colleague expressed delight at the former Liverpool man's recent revival.
“The best thing about Chelsea? Our confidence has grown and we have Fernando Torres scoring again," Ramires told Goal.com. “Now we can beat anyone and we showed that at Camp Nou [in the Champions League semifinal win over Barcelona].”
The 25-year-old is suspended for the Champions League final after reaching the competition's yellow-card limit and he admits that the FA Cup final against Liverpool on Saturday will consequently be the highlight of his campaign.
“For me it's the game of the season because I won't be able to play the Champions League final in Munich and I want to win a title this season," he declared. “We have now entered the decisive phase of the season and we are achieving a lot more than many people believed.
“In terms of morale we have grown over the last few weeks and the final on Saturday comes at perhaps the best possible moment, although we won't be complacent in any way.
“Two finals and a chance to finish in the Champions League places - I would have taken that in the month of August.
“To play at Wembley is to fulfil a dream and, if we can win on top of that, the day will stay with me for the rest of my life.”
The Blues are favourites against Kenny Dalglish's men, who trail them by 12 points in the Premier League, but Ramires does not expect the Reds to be pushovers.
“In a final over just one game there is never a favourite and less so when you consider the two teams involved,” he insisted. “Everything is even and the game could be decided by any detail.
“Liverpool are a difficult rival. They are one of the hardest teams we could have got, which would make winning the FA Cup even more impressive.
“We have to go out and take the game to Liverpool. It won't be like against Barca because Liverpool are at a similar level to us.
“We can't play as conservatively; we have to set out to win from the outset.
“The fans are tremendously excited. The atmosphere at Wembley will be unique and we have to give everything for our fans. If we win the FA Cup it will be a great boost ahead of the final in Munich.
“If I score another goal and it gives us victory the celebration will be huge on the pitch, but in the final my job will be different.”
Anfield strike duo Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll have also been pinpointed by the former Cruzeiro midfielder as the biggest threat to Chelsea's Wembley hopes.
“The best thing about Liverpool? They have very dangerous players in attack," the 25-year-old continued. “With the quality they have there, we will have to be very careful and it will be a great battle in midfield to claim control of the ball.
“Suarez is in great form at the moment and he grows in stature in matches like this one. We will have to stop him and not allow him any space on the pitch.
“Carroll is a player who is capable of anything and he is difficult to mark because of his height and jumping style.”
