Ama K Abebrese- Ghana weather motivated me to relocate back
posted on Tue, 22 May at 15:48
Award winning actress, Ama K Abebrese says the enabling weather in Ghana is one of the main reasons why she relocated, describing herself as a “sun baby”.
Ama K, as she is otherwise called prior to settling in Ghana, worked as a presenter on BBC2's youth show Pass da Mic and the English File educational series. She was a regular TV presenter on OBE TV, hosting and producing on a number of shows including One Touch, and the entertainment chat show On The Sofa.
She is currently the head of local productions at Viasat 1 television station and she says the whether played a very vital role in her decision making, saying, “the weather is ten times better here”.
“Who doesn’t like waking up to the sunshine streaming down the face? It gives you a spring in your step”.
“I was in London two weeks ago and I got just one day of sun; but it was what I call the “ma tricki wo sun”. The sun is out but it is still very cold. I’m a sun baby so I do like a bit of sun. I love the sun, for that alone, I’m a happy girl”.
“I was here for about two and a half years; then I had one foot in, one foot out, but I finally woke up one morning, and said; ‘this is it’”.
Ama K was speaking in an interview with Xfm 95.1.
Comparing working in Ghana to working in London, Africa’s finest actress said things get done in Ghana but at a very slow pace. In London, she said everything is so organized unlike here in Ghana.
“In London, you have a meeting at nine, and it starts at nine… but you come here and there is traffic. Things are a bit more relaxed and laid back here, but do you know what, we get things done; we just have a different pace here”.
Talking about herself on whether or not she is a spiritual person. Ama said she used to be spiritual when she was young. Now she says she hardly makes time for church, even though she maintains she is spiritual even though she is not “the most church-going person”.
“I used to be very spiritual when I was younger; going to church every Sunday with mummy and stuff like that, but since I moved to Ghana, I do not make the time to go to church. But I’m trying to change that. I am very spiritual; I do pray but I am not the most church going person at the moment. I am working on that”.
Ama K has been nominated for Best Actress in a leading role for the upcoming AMAA awards for her role in the movie, Ties that bind and she is already looking forward to winning the award back to back.
